Mayor Mary Bossart congratulated the new chiefs of the Rockville Centre Fire Department, elected by members of the department in an April 7 ballot. From left are 1st Assistant Chief John Thorp of Eureka Hook, Ladder and Bucket Company No. 1; Chief of Department John Busching of Floodlight Rescue Company No. 1 and the new 2nd Assistant Chief, Robert Seaman, of Live Oak Engine Company No. 1.

At the regular meeting of the Rockville Centre Fire Department’s Fire Council on April 19, the chiefs, as well as company captains and lieutenants, company secretaries, wardens to the Fire Council and officers of the Fire Police Squad were sworn into office by Bossart, as village trustees watched. The Fire Council is the governing body of the Rockville Centre Fire Department, the largest volunteer fire department in New York state that consists of 320 men and women who belong to seven fire companies — one ladder, five engine and a rescue company.

The 163-year-old department protects approximately 26,000 residents living in the Incorporated Village of Rockville Centre, and assists neighboring communities when called.
