RVC Conservancy starts spring planting program

The tree planting program started in 2018 to remove and replace diseased Bradford Pear trees. Now, with most of the diseased trees gone, the Conservancy hopes to add to the over 200 new trees in has planted by offering six options to continue to keep the village beautiful. Last year alone, the group, partnered with Barbato Landscaping, planted 100 new trees.

The RVC Conservancy paired up with Barbato when it once was contracted by the village for its landscaping needs. Barbato grows all of their trees on the North Fork of Long Island.

RVC Conservancy board member Matt Cliszis is encouraging residents to plant on their front lawn if they choose one of the larger options that might not fit on the strip of grass many RVC houses have close to the street.

“It’s exciting to know that people are now reaching out proactively to us asking when the program is starting up again,” Cliszis said of the Conservancy’s growth over the last few years. “It’s encouraging that it’s gaining momentum and that more people are aware that we do this every spring as a supplement or bookend to the village’s fall planting program.”

Residents can choose from the Sugar Maple, Honeylocust, Red Maple, Serviceberry, Kwanzan Cherry, and the Zelkova on the conservancy website at rvcconservancy.org. Orders are due by April 1 for the May plantings.
