Mark W. Andrade, 45, of Wyoming Avenue, Lynbrook, was arrested on Jan. 14 by Rockville Centre Police Detectives for several larcenies of aluminum bleachers from different local Rockville Centre parks.
Police said that, on several occasions between Dec. 19 and Jan. 6, Andrade drove his van to the Dean Skelos Sports Complex on Peninsula Boulevard or Lister Field on Sunrise Highway and proceeded to dismantle and remove aluminum seating bleachers. In a few instances, police said, he concealed what he could not carry and returned the next day to retrieve it.
After the larcenies, police said, he would immediately sell the aluminum to local scrap yards.
Additionally, Andrade was charged with the larceny of auto parts from a vehicle that was parked at Rockville Centre’s Department of Public Works storage yard. The serial scrapper’s Rockville Centre thefts amounted to approximately $10,000.
The arrest was made possible due to the investigation of Rockville Centre detectives and footage captured by surveillance cameras.

Police Commissioner Charles Gennario commended the Rockville Centre police officers and detectives who were involved on a job well done.
“Our investigators and patrol officers did an outstanding job and exhibited determination and skill in arresting this thief,” Gennario said. “Our department takes pride in protecting the village’s property, especially when it comes to our beautiful parks.” Gennario also thanked the Nassau County Police Department’s First Precinct Detectives and Electronics Bureau for their assistance.
Andrade was charged with three counts of Grand Larceny and one count of Petit Larceny. He was arraigned on Jan. 15 at First District Court in Hempstead.
