Rockville Centre police officer Peter Rogan was honored during the Sept. 28 Police Service Awards ceremony at Hempstead Town Hall. Rogan was selected by a committee of his peers for his outstanding law enforcement service.

Rogan was recognized for his involvement in catching a pocketbook thief who stole a woman’s bag in the Key Food parking lot and eventually made his way to Lynbrook, where Rogan apprehended him.

He was also instrumental in catching a thief who was stealing packages from residents’ porches last Christmas. Using video footage, tips from the public and resourceful thinking, Rogan was able to track down the thief and catch him before Christmas.

“Police Officer Rogan is one of our outstanding police officers,” said Rockville Centre Police Commissioner Charles Gennario. “He does a good job day in and day out, year in and year out, and he is well deserved to be acknowledge by a committee of his peers. I wish I had more cops like Pete Rogan.”

When asked what it felt like to be recognized for his service by his peers, his reply was simple: “Oh it’s great. It’s a wonderful honor.”
