Lynda D’Ambrose, a Rockville Centre resident and president of the Children’s Day Program Parent Association, was honored by The Center for Developmental Disabilities during its annual dinner last month in Woodbury.

D’Ambrose was honored for her hard work and dedication as president of the PPA.

“I love what I do for our kids and families of CDD,” she said. “It was an honor to feel so appreciated.”

D’Ambrose was a labor and delivery registered nurse at South Nassau Hospital for over 25 years and a nurse for about 37 years. Her 14-year-old son, Patrick, was diagnosed with Down syndrome and her husband, Dr. Patrick McManus, is an OB-GYN and director of obstetrics at Mercy.

“We both have a strong passion for special needs kids and their families,” she said. “I stepped into the role of chair of our parent association this summer, but have been orchestrating our fundraisers and family events for the past four years.”

The Children’s Day Program provides educational programs including vocational training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physical education, speech/language services, psychological services, family services, nursing services, community integration and transitional planning for students with autism, intellectual disabilities, multiple handicaps, or developmental disabilities.
