Ryan and Tebow are good choices

Posted

Paul Ryan is Tim Tebow. Ryan is who you want on the field as a strong second to the president. He’ll make all the big plays when called upon.

For the record, I like Tim Tebow. The newly signed Jets quarterback is impressive not only on the field, but off. He is exactly the kind of athlete — and man — we should want our kids to look up to. He’s not one of these knuckleheads who goes around getting arrested and having 10 different kids with half a dozen different women.

Ryan is like Tebow. He’s an honest conservative politician we can all be proud of. He has served Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District since 1999. He chairs the House Budget Committee, and helped author several fiscally prudent plans, including the Path to Prosperity, which proposed significant changes to Medicare. He knows the budget and what needs to be done to get us out of this severe federal deficit.

He is Catholic, married to a lovely woman, Janna, a lawyer, and he has a beautiful family.

Now, of course, there will be naysayers. Even Tim Tebow has detractors. Take former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason. On his radio show, “Boomer & Carton,” he stated, “I’m just telling you right now, I would cut Tebow. I’ll tell you why I would. It’s not in any way, shape or form — I think — benefiting this team.”

What is the argument for cutting a player who has proved himself on the field? It’s just an asinine comment.

My good friend former Jets great Greg Buttle told me how the game works. “Every year, every player is tested by another player being brought into camp,” he said. “Shouldn’t quarterbacks be under the same scrutiny?”

Esiason’s quote was nothing more than a big boomerang that’s going to come back and hit him in the arse. It was nothing more than an unprofessional and self-serving attempt to gain publicity and ratings for his radio show.

Esiason may not support the Jets’ decision, but I urge the Republican Party to embrace the Romney team. I feel confident in Mitt Romney’s decision to choose Ryan as his running mate, and I’m more hopeful than ever that they will win in November.
