Soggy weather, but warm and cozy at Rockville Centre's Breakfast with Santa

In spite of the nasty weather last Sunday, many children and parents enjoyed an exciting Breakfast with Santa’s Helpers at the Recreation Center.

Broken into three sessions, the breakfast drew approximately 1,100 people. More than 100 workers and volunteers assisted with the morning event as well, and many businesses around the village were gracious in lending their support.

Associated Supermarket provided between 500 and 600 milk cartons, Bagelman supplied the bagels and King Kullen lent syrup for the massive amount of pancakes that were served by Pantry Diner chefs. Approximately 80 gallons worth of pancake mix was readied for the breakfast.

“This event usually draws a huge turnout. It’s very popular,” said George Germano, a Rec Center worker who assisted in preparing the pancakes. Germano — a village resident — recalled attending the breakfast himself when he was younger.

Children who attended the breakfast this year were able to meet with Santa Claus, pose for photo opportunities with him and write letters addressed to him. Face painting, playtime and the making of colorful Christmas chains were also offered for the kids, as was the always popular storytime by the digital fireplace.
