South Shore Symphony comes to St. Agnes

St. Agnes Cathedral welcomed the South Shore Symphony on June 4 for a night of classical music.

Rockville Centre resident Wayne Lipton is the symphony’s president and principal cellist and has grown the group along with Conductor Scott Jackson Wiley. It now includes professional musicians, gifted high school students, and dedicated amateurs.

The symphony was first organized in the Five Towns in 1983, but became intertwined with Rockville Centre when Lipton moved to the village in 1991.

Since then, the symphony has become a mainstay of the Madison Theatre at Molloy University, St. Agnes, and Leggz Ltd. Dance.

The parent company for the symphony is the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts, a nonprofit organization that funds the orchestra through grants and fundraising.
