South Side High School recently brought all the excitement and pageantry of a pep rally to elementary and middle school students throughout the Rockville Centre School District.

Senior captains on each of the fall sports teams along with student musicians, school mascots and cheerleaders loaded up the bus on Oct. 22, for a “Pep Tour” across the district.

“It was really fun to hype up the kids,” Michael Aiello, a wide receiver for the South Side Cyclones varsity football team, said. “It was inspiring.”

High School students traveled to each of the five elementary schools and the middle school to spread positivity and enthusiasm in preparation for homecoming.

Reese Haley and Charley Doreste with the Cyclones girls’ varsity soccer team said they enjoyed getting to travel to each school and be a role model for younger students in the district.

“It was so great to see our senior leaders show their passion for their sport and their school,” Trish Takach and Liz Marshall, co-advisors of the Spirit Club, said. “It was a true win-win for both the athletes and the students. You could really feel the ‘unity in the community.’ We appreciate all the collaboration with the buildings and administration.”

South Side High School Principal Patrick Walsh said that the Pep Tour was a way to spread the enthusiasm and excitement of homecoming to the other schools in the district. The event also gave students at each of the five elementary schools and the middle school an opportunity to see what South Side High School is all about.

“We are so proud of senior students for representing our building in such a positive way,” Walsh said. “It was a wonderful example of the RVC school community coming together to celebrate school spirit in our community.”
