Members of Athletes Helping Athletes, students from South Side High School and South Side Middle School were joined by other volunteers from the community who came to set-up, run the events and cheer at the Special Olympics regional floor hockey tournament hosted last month by the school.

A posting on the Special Olympics website read: “All four Long Island teams, the Commack Sharks, Long Island Lions, ACDS Thunderbolts, and Babylon Bobcats battled till the very end in a series of extremely close games. The Long Island Lions were victorious in the gold medal game over the Babylon Bobcats. The skills athletes from these four teams were joined by Rockville Centre’s own, newly formed, skills team. All skills athletes made an impressive showing! A big thanks goes out to all those who volunteered and especially to South Side High School’s Athletic Director Carol Roseto for making the day possible!”
