The dysfunction isn't just in Albany

It’s been a difficult few weeks for President Obama. He’s had to fight off Republican attacks on Syria and Benghazi and charges that his own agency, the IRS, has been targeting conservative groups. Let’s not forget the Justice Department’s snooping into the Associated Press.

Republican or Democrat, people don’t like the government in their business, and from speaking with my friends and neighbors, it’s obvious that no one likes Big Brother invading anyone’s privacy or right to free speech.

These fights are all ugly, and while I’m sure the president did not directly have his hands in the IRS matter, he needs to take responsibility for his administration, his people. As is the case with Benghazi, months have gone by and yet we still don’t know who knew what and when.

Rep. Darrell Issa launched a campaign for transparency, and is demanding answers on how the White House dealt with the attacks on the consulate in Benghazi and if there were any prior signs that an attack was imminent.

Was there a cover-up? Last week the White House released 100 emails about the attack in an attempt to quell those suspicions. The emails revealed that the talking points written by the CIA were subjected to extensive revisions by the CIA after the State Department expressed concerns. The early versions referenced an Al Qaeda affiliate, Ansar al-Shariah, and also mentioned previous warnings from the CIA about possible terror threats in Benghazi.

These emails make it clear that the American people were deliberately misled. Instead of placing the blame on who is really responsible and airing out the fact that multiple threats of an attack were made by an Al Qaeda affiliate, Capitol Hill would rather scrub reports to make it look like the attack was nothing more than a demonstration that progressed into violence.
