They touched many Rockville Centre lives

Lillian Attell and Claudia Lieberman were honored at the United Jewish Appeal’s Community Breakfast Reception at Temple B’nai Sholom on May 2.

Lillian Attell has long been active at Central Synagogue, where she assists early-childhood teachers, organizes Shabbat refreshments and takes photos for the synagogue’s archives. Dedicated to the community, Attell has touched the lives of many in Rockville Centre as an aide at Wilson Elementary School for 10 years and at the after-school Project Great program. Involved with the local Boy Scouts, she is a den mother for Pack 31, which is sponsored by Central Synagogue.

Involved in Jewish education for over 20 years, Claudia Leiberman, the education director at Temple B’nai Sholom, currently serves on the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism’s Education Committee. As a member of the Oceanside Jewish Center, she joined the search committee when the principal retired from the synagogue, and became chair of the school board to remain involved with Jewish education. In 2002, Lieberman was honored by the Conservative Principals’ Council of Greater Long Island as a lay leader.

Former Rockville Centre Mayor Gene Murray also was scheduled to receive the Community Service Award at the Sunday morning event.
