Time for fond — and fun — farewell

Posted

As the Rockville Centre Summer Playground finished its season on Aug. 12, a Herald photographer captured campers during the annual farewell picnic, held at the Recreation Center this year, instead of its former venue at Centennial Park on Mill River.

Staff, volunteers and the children in 1st through 8th grades who participated in the six-week annual program that is held at the Recreation Center and Hewitt and Wilson elementary schools, enjoyed the picnic fair, and a number of fun activities that included a baseball game and obstacle course competitions, replete with hula hoops.

The event is the culmination of a summer session packed with activities that include athletics, arts and crafts, dance and a number of special events such as scavenger hunts, races, sprinkler days, a family carnival, the picnic and a talent show.
