Two SSHS grads host Hoops 4 Hope charity basketball tournament

Posted

Two South Side High School graduates, Steven Kane and Adam Vojdany, fraternity brothers at Duke University, hosted a 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament at the Recreation Center on Aug. 14, raising money for Hoops for Hope, an organization that uses donations to help children afflicted with HIV/AIDS in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Thirteen teams of three signed up for the event, raising more than $1,000. All of the food, drinks and basketballs were donated by local residents or businesses, and the use of the Recreation Center for the four-hour event was also free-of-charge, enabling every penny to go directly to the charity.

According to Kane, the community response was so positive that he is considering holding a second annual Hoops 4 Hope Charity 3 on 3 Tournament next summer.
