On Oct. 5, the Village of Rockville Centre held the 28th Annual Mayor’s Golf Classic, raising money for the Community Fund.

Started by former mayor Gene Murray, the Golf Outing is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Rockville Centre Community Fund, which Murray also created. It provides financial assistance to residents in need during emergencies, and has raised more than $1.5 million since it was started in 1987.

This year, the golf outing honored the directors of the Rockville Centre Basketball League for everything they give to the community and the children in the league. Additionally, Janet Poggi received the Eugene Murray Outstanding Citizenship Award.
