Seaford woman killed in parkway crash

A Seaford woman was killed in an accident on the Bethpage State Parkway on Wednesday at about 1:30 p.m.

According to New York State Police, 36-year-old Kelly Georgens, of Seaford, was driving her Honda Civic southbound on the parkway when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and was struck by a Dodge pick-up truck.

Georgens was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, Thomas Scaccia, 42, of Lindenhurst, and his 11-year-old passenger were taken to Nassau University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A third vehicle was also involved.

Police say they are unsure what caused Georgens to cross the double yellow line. Any witnesses are asked to call (631) 756-3300. The investigation is continuing.
