Two men were arrested after a routine traffic stop turned into an attack on two Nassau County police officers on Friday afternoon in Baldwin, according to police.

Two patrol officers were conducting the stop, for various traffic offenses, in Baldwin at 4:03 p.m. on Friday, when the two men in the car, identified as Markus Mcintyre, 25, and Kevin Curry, 27, both of Hempstead, refused to roll down their windows, police said.

When one officer tried to open the driver side door, Mcintyre, who was behind the wheel, hit the gas, in reverse, and hit both officers and the police car. He then went into drive and hit one of the officers a second time, throwing him in the air, police said.

One officer was able to disable the vehicle by removing the key, and got Mcintyre out, placing him under arrest with the help from other officers who responded to the scene, all while Mcintyre punched and elbowed him in the head, according to police.

Meanwhile, Curry made a break for it from the passenger side, pushing one officer to the ground, but was quickly apprehended. During his arrest, police said, narcotics fell from his person.

Police later found that the car was stolen from New Jersey.

Both officers were rushed to a local hospital for their injuries, and Saturday morning a police spokesman did not have information about whether they had been discharged.

Mcintyre was charged with two counts of assault on an officer, two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree possession of stolen property, third-degree possession of a weapon and resisting arrest, as well as a number of traffic violations.

Curry was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Both were scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday in First District Court.
