The Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals recently notified Oceanside residents living near the site of the proposed three-story Sunrise Assisted Living facility, along Atlantic and Terrell avenues, that all of the development’s proposed variances had been granted. Fifth grade students of Ms. Linker’s class of Hewitt Elementary School in Rockville Centre showed their heart for Mount Sinai South Nassau patients of all ages on Valentine’s Day. The students collected stuffed animals for children in the pediatric unit and made Valentine’s Day cards with heartfelt messages for adults. more

She helped implement and design the English as a Second Language Program there in 1966 — one of the first on Long Island — and went on to teach for 32 years. more
If not for a call made by her father in 2002, there is a chance that Oceanside native Lauren Streifer would not have become the CEO of her own company and founder of her own publishing house. The call led her on an adventure from Long Island to Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans and eventually to Australia, where she now resides. The map of the U.S. on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Covid-19 transmission map showed a brilliant red encompassing the entire country, indicating a high rate of transmission, regardless of how region has dealt with mask mandates. The CDC’s site also shows a decrease in cases over the last 30 days and an increase in deaths during that same time. more

Oceanside and Island Park, along with the rest of Long Island, were hit with heavy snowfall and high winds on Saturday morning.
