The city is set to host a community career fair at the Martin Luther King Center, at 615 Riverside Blvd., on Thursday, March 24, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The career fair is being organized by Deacon Marcus Tinker, in close partnership with the Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church, along with the Evangel-Revival Community Church; New Life Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ; Concerned Citizens of North Park; NAACP Long Beach Chapter; and the Long Beach & Hempstead Council of Thought and Action. Also sponsoring the event are the City of Long Beach, the offices of U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice; State Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky; County Legislator Denise Ford, and Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams.

“Our goal in hosting this job fair is to assist individuals throughout the community in finding employment,” Tinker said. “We are seeking employers and businesses that are currently looking to hire individuals with relevant work experience and education for full-time and part-time positions to participate in the job fair.”

There will be more than 20 regional employers in attendance looking to hire individuals with relevant work experience and education for full- and part-time positions, including: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Borders Protection, Tri-County Home Nursing Services, Inc., New York Life Insurance, Fidelis Care, United Healthcare, FJC Security, Security Enforcement Inc., E.W. Howell: General Contractors/Construction Managers, The City of Long Beach, U.S. Army & National Guard, Walmart, New York Community Bank, Genesus One Enterprise Inc. Construction Company, and many more.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership between the City, specifically the Economic Development and Community Development Departments, and the members of the North Park neighborhood in our shared goals of facilitating change, empowering residents, and creating a strong and prosperous community for all,” said City Councilwoman Anissa Moore.

“After a historic recession and Superstorm Sandy, many people in the community are still unemployed and are in need of work,” Kaminsky added. “It is my pleasure to co-sponsor the Long Beach Career Fair, an important event connecting residents with businesses looking to hire.”
