Double murder rocks Post Ave.

Thorpe, 41, and her estranged husband, Franklin Gallimore Jr., 50, were found shot to death in Thorpe's home Sunday night. Police arrested the couple's son, Franklin Gallimore III, 20, a 2005 graduate of Sewanhaka High School, along with his girlfriend, Katherina Galatro, 18, in connection with the murders at a Suffolk County motel hours later.
"You don't expect to hear about something like that in this neighborhood," a neighbor who spoke anonymously said of the block just off Meacham Avenue, one of Elmont's busiest roads. "It's heartbreaking when anyone has to meet such a violent end."
At a press conference on Monday, Nassau Homicide Detective Lt. Michael Fleming said that police were called to investigate gunshots at the home just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, and discovered Thorpe and Gallimore dead in the kitchen, each with a single gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses told police that a man and woman drove away in a dark, late-model sedan.
Hours later, Suffolk County police officers found a black Mercedes Benz fitting the description of the getaway car at the Broadway Motor Inn on Route 110 in Farmingdale. Franklin Gallimore III and Galatro, who were staying in one of the rooms, were taken into custody without incident. Gallimore was expected to be charged with first- and second-degree murder on Monday night, Fleming said. Galatro was also facing charges, but Fleming did not say what they were. "She provided assistance in his escape and hiding out," Fleming said about Galatro's role.
A Broadway Motor Inn receptionist declined to comment on Monday.
Fleming said that Gallimore's father, who lived in Central Islip, was called to the Elmont home by Thorpe Sunday afternoon to help settle an ongoing dispute she was having with their son, including Galatro's living in the house against Thorpe's wishes.
"She was upset with his lifestyle," Fleming said. "He was unemployed, didn't go to school."
Franklin Gallimore Jr. was a disabled construction worker, and Thorpe was an accountant, Fleming said. Residents were surprised to hear that their son had been arrested, describing him as a gentleman who often put empty garbage cans back in the proper driveways after the trash was picked up.
