The former manager of a Merrick business has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $500,000 from the company over a four-year period.

According to Nassau County police, William Wittrock, 34, of South Huntington, worked at Tom New York, at 135 Merrick Road, from August 2012 until August 2016. While employed as a clerk and manager there, police said, he issued company checks payable to cash, endorsed and deposited them into his personal bank account, causing a loss of more than $500,000 for the company.

Police arrested Wittrock at his home. He was charged with second-degree grand larceny and was scheduled to be arraigned in Hempstead First District Court on Thursday.

Attorney information for Wittrock was not available at press time.
