St. Agnes students Skype with students at Molloy

Fifth grade students at St. Agnes Cathedral School and their technology teacher, Mary Brower, recently explained the use of “Green Screening” (also called Chroma Key) video and showed samples of their projects during a Skype video conference with Molloy College education students in Professor Amy Gaimaro’s technology classes.

For their social studies class with Marianne Carberry, the students worked in small groups to research various winter Olympic events. They then wrote a news script and rehearsed their newscaster roles. Students next sat in front of the green screen to deliver their newscast while their teacher digitally recorded the news on her Sony Webbie HD video camera that was set up on a tripod. She used a software program to combine the newscast with actual Olympic video footage in the background, so that it looked like the students were broadcasting from the Vancouver Olympic games.
