Valley Stream South High School Cultural Society members and children stirred up some Mexican magic at the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library on Saturday.

Attendees celebrated the Mexican holiday, El Dia de Los Muertos — “Day of the Dead” — in the library’s children’s room. The holiday, which takes place from Oct. 31-Nov. 2, focuses on gathering family and friends to pray and remember those who have passed away.

The main part of the Saturday’s program featured demonstrations and performances, including dances, by Cultural society members. Children grades K-6 also colored skull masks to wear, created tissue paper flowers and even decorated cookies using icing.
