Call it life in cartoon motion.

More than 100 people attended Anime Tosho-Con, Long Island's first-ever anime conference last Saturday at the Rockville Centre Public Library, which focused on art forms emanating from the popular animated cartoons on Japanese television.

The bustling daylong event, which began at 10 a.m. and ran well into the afternoon, featured an anime (pronounced AN-i-may) fashion show and skit competition, an anime-themed "Jeopardy" and a martial arts demonstration by a local karate master.

Brooklyn anime cartoonist Misako Rocks! delivered the keynote speech to a rapt audience. Sharon Cunningham, the assistant manager and buyer for the bilingual retail chain Kinokuniya Bookstore, based in New York City, gave a presentation on "Life and Language in Japan" and also donated items from Kinokuniya.

Teens and adults alike refined their poetry in a haiku workshop and perfected their culinary techniques in a candy-sushi demonstration. Attendees also participated in a Japanese brush-painting workshop and anime film

screenings.
