Howard. T. Herber Middle School student Ashley Reed was honored during the Malverne Board Education’s meeting on Sept. 8 for recently earning second place in the oratorical contest of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.'s 74th National Convention in Buffalo.

Reed, who represented the youth club of the Central Nassau Club and the Northeast District at the convention, compared and contrasted the beliefs of President Barack Obama and Dr. Martin Martin Luther King, Jr. for her speech.

Reed, who is a Lakeview resident, was presented with a certificate on behalf of the District 12 administration and also received a citation from Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby at the school board meeting.
