Light Rain Baldwin Schools give M.L. King his due

Baldwin High students Barak Akil-Issac and Olusade Green, and Middle School Students Nicolette Carrion and Yaw Bonsu received Humanitarian Awards for their community work. The Awards are given to students who exemplify King’s ideas by actively participating in school and community outreach and demonstrating an awareness and sensitivity toward others. Paulette Monroe and Carole Hamilton of Concerned Parents of Baldwin presented the awards to the students.
Cello soloist Danielle Davis performed Faure’s “Élégie.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have been 87 this month, and to recognize the holiday that marks his birth, Baldwin students took to the arts.
Visual and performing artists from across the school district gathered last week to pay homage to the slain civil rights leader.
From drawings to dance, the young performers and artists demonstrated that they not only understood King’s legacy but that they intended to perpetuate it.
