Broadway legend Chita Rivera joins members of the Long Island Philharmonic, for a special evening of music, Saturday, May 1, at 8 p.m. The two-time Tony Award winner is accompanied by members of the Philharmonic as she performs selections from her most celebrated musicals. These include “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Chicago,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” “The Rink,” “Sweet Charity,” and “West Side Story,” along with music by Leonard Bernstein, Cy Coleman, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, and Charles Strouse.

The creator of famous roles such as Velma Kelly in “Chicago,” Anita in “West Side Story,” and Rosie in “Bye Bye Birdie,” the singer-dancer-actress has been captivating audiences for over a half-century. Rivera, who has received many honors throughout her illustrious career, was decorated with the 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom.
