Cops seek info, offer reward

Nassau County police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a petit larceny that occurred in West Hempstead on two occasions. The man was observed stealing from the Stop & Shop located at 50 Cherry Valley Avenue. On Saturday, June 11, around 10:30 p.m. the man took cosmetic items valued at about $358 and left the store without paying. On Sunday, June 12, around 6:30 a.m., the man took chewing gum valued at about $102 and didn’t pay.

Police ask people who can identify the man or have any information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential. Crime Stoppers is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Cops seek information

Detectives with the Fifth Squad are seeking information about a robbery that occurred recently in Lakeview.

On Sunday, Aug. 7, around 9:40 p.m., a 40-year-old man was walking home to his Jefferson Avenue residence when he encountered two unknown black men standing in his driveway. One of the men asked him for money and then punched him in the face.

When the victim attempted to enter his house, he was attacked from behind by four unknown black men and stripped of the shopping bag he was carrying, which contained a pair of sneakers. The men then fled on foot in the direction of Langdon Boulevard.

The victim sustained a contusion on his right forearm.

Detectives ask those with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential and callers will remain anonymous.

Burglary and larceny

Detectives with the Fifth Precinct reported the following crimes in Lakeview and West Hempstead.

  • A house on Adams Avenue in West Hempstead was burglarized sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on July 27.
  • There were two reported incidents of grand larceny in Lakeview, the first on Woodfield Road between 9:30 p.m. on July 28 and 7:30 a.m. on July 29, and the second on Pershing Boulevard between 9 p.m. on July 28 and 7 a.m. on July 29. In both incidents, tires and rims were stolen.
  • Two other larceny/theft incidents occurred in West Hempstead. At some point between 9 p.m. on July 26 and 8 a.m. on July 27 someone broke the driver’s side window of and stole property from a car parked on Academy Place. Similarly, a GPS and other items were stolen from another car parked on Hamilton Avenue sometime between 10 p.m. on July 30 and 9:30 a.m. on July 31.
  • The driver’s side of a car parked on Langdon Boulevard in Lakeview was scratched at some point between midnight and 6 a.m. on July 28.
