District 13 partners with local farm

Fourth-grade students in District 13 are in for some hands-on lessons in agriculture now that the district has established a partnership with Crossroads Farm at Grossman’s, in Malverne, the last working farm in Nassau County.

A group of fourth-grade teachers visited the farm on Feb. 23 to receive training that they would tell their classes about. The classes will visit the farm and students will experience every aspect of its operation, from the greenhouse to the fields. A special curriculum will provide lessons about the history and importance of small farms, local organic food, plants, bees and soil regeneration. The teachers will receive another training in April, and students will visit the farm in April and May.
