Drug awareness forum at LBHS

The Long Beach Police Department will host a drug awareness forum at the Long Beach High School, at 322 Lagoon Dr. West in Lido Beach, at 7:30 p.m on March 10.

Charlie Bernard, a DEA special agent, will be that keynote speaker at this forum that is sponsored by the LBPD, LBHS and the Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking. He will address the students and attendees at the forum and answer questions.

Inspector Jack Radin and police officers Judy Parisi and Allen Alexandre of the LBPD’s school community resource unit attended the “Too Good for Drugs” training held at the Nassau County Police Academy earlier this week. It is a school based program aimed at students from kindergarten to high school, educating them in coping skills and other methods to combat drug use.

“Locally, three Long Beach residents have been lost as a result of heroin overdoses,” said LBPD Commissioner Thomas Sofield Sr. “The department has adopted a proactive approach to curb this troublesome problem.

“In addition to stepped-up efforts in detection and apprehension by the patrol force and detective division, the department’s approach is to also inform our youth through education.”
