Hempstead man killed in North Valley Stream

A Hempstead man was killed on the Southern State Parkway in North Valley Stream on Sunday morning.

According to State Police, 20-year-old Darnell Gibson was driving his 1992 Acura eastbound at 6:30 a.m. when he lost control near Fletcher Avenue. His vehicle struck a light pole. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers were transported to Nassau University Medical Center for injuries. Raymond Wade, 19, of Hempstead, was treated for neck pain. He was the front seat passenger. Laxton Wiggan, 21, also of Hempstead, was sitting in the back seat and was treated for abdominal pain and face lacerations.

Ranier Ricketts, 18, of Uniondale, another back seat passenger, was transported to Winthrop Hospital for neck pain. All injuries were not life-threatening.

The parkway was closed eastbound for several hours.
