Five recruits sworn in as Long Beach firefighters

On Sept. 28, five recruits were sworn in as members of the Long Beach Fire Department by City Manager Charles T. Theofan.

Alexander Sharpe, Michael Seeman, Brian Olson, Bryan Jones and Christopher Koehle, all Long Beach residents, took the oath as family, friends and fellow firefighters looked on.

“These young men are excellent candidates for the uniformed force,” said the City Manager. “All five are EMT’s and each one has experience as either a member of the Long Beach lifeguard patrol or as a volunteer for the Long Beach Fire Department or both. “

Theofan said that the lifesaving skills that the recruits possess will only add to the “already quick response and quality of response that the department displays each and every day.”

Jones, Olson and Sharpe will begin their courses at the Westchester Career Fire Academy in October while Koehle and Seeman, experienced volunteer firefighters, will attend the academy in March.
