Spooky Friday
See what shenanigans happen on Friday the 13th when Old Bethpage Village Restoration celebrates an “1880 Friday the 13th.” The historic village will highlight superstitions and odd beliefs from 19th century Long Island, starting on that ominous Friday the 13th and ending on Sunday. Visitors can visit the “Jilted Bride” in the village church as they learn about wedding superstitions. Also stop to chat with the grave-digger about funeral customs and discover which of the village’s buildings are believed to be haunted; find water with a dowsing rod; attend demonstrations of phrenology (reading character from the shape of the head); and hear stories about Long Island legends.
Friday through Sunday, Aug. 13-15, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. $10, $7 children 4-14 and seniors. Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage. (516) 572-8400.
