Susan Giovanniello, a 19-year-old volunteer medical technician for the Glen Cove Emergency Medical Services, died yesterday morning after her shift. A release from the Nassau County Fire Marshal cited the cause of death as an unspecified medical condition. Authorities have classified Giovanniello’s death as a line of duty death.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Glen Cove EMS page, Giovanniello proudly served as a volunteer, responding to many emergency calls throughout the City of Glen Cove, rising from Glen Cove EMS Explorer Post 1072 to a caring professional who gave the ultimate sacrifice to the community. She served her community with the city’s EMS for one year.

A donation page — fundthefirst.com/campaign/supporting-the-family-of-susan-mi58k9 has been established to help the Giovanniello family with expenses. As of 7:45 a.m. this morning, the page has raised $9,160 out of their $30,000 goal.

Giovanniello was described as having a contagious smile and demeaner, who was calm in stressful situations as it related to patient care.

“Her enthusiasm for training and teamwork with the Corps will be greatly missed,” the post read. “She is a hero and will live on in our hearts forever.”
