Help for hungry neighbors

The girls of Hewitt Elementary School’s Junior Girl Scout Troop 804 participated in a month-long charity food drive holding a canned food collection outside King Kullen. They said they were very thankful for the amount of food they received, and after boxing up all the items, the girls brought several hundred cans to the Rockville Centre Recreation Center for distribution. They then brought remaining boxes of pasta, cereal and cans to the Vineyard Church food pantry. At the food pantry, the scouts volunteered several hours one evening filling bags with food, organizing and labeling the bags, and serving food to guests. The work was very worthwhile for the 11 girls in the troop and they said they were very appreciative of the kind people who supported their efforts.
