Hewlett Harbor legal eagle recognized

The Hofstra Maurice A. Deane School of Law honored Hewlett Harbor resident Judge Denise Sher as an Outstanding Women in Law and presented her with its Judicial on April 25.

Sher is an Acting Supreme Court Justice in the Nassau County Supreme Court. Serving since 1995 as a Nassau District Court Judge, she was the first female judge elected as president of the Board of Judges. Known for her legal expertise and excellent courtroom management, she was appointed Supervising Judge of that court.

As a practicing attorney, Sher served many years as a Hempstead deputy town attorney, in private practice and as an adjunct professor at Marymount College. She is a graduate of Hofstra Law and a summa cum laude graduate of Queens College. Sher is listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and is a Phi Beta Kappa.

Among her many honors are the Distinguished Service Award from the Jewish Lawyers Association, the Lifetime of Community Service Award from the UJA Federation of New York, the Stephen Gassman We Care Award from the Nassau County Bar Association and the Distinguished Honoree Award from Yashar, the Judges and Lawyers chapter of Hadassah.
