High winds pummel Rockville Centre

Posted

Rockville Centre's emergency workers had their hands full today as near hurricane force winds and driving rain toppled large trees and challenged power lines throughout the village today. The bad weather from a poweful Nor'easter, came on the heels of three similar storms in recent weeks. This one featured higher winds and warmer temperatures that prevented the area from being buried in snow.

Many village employees -- workers from the Department of Public Works, Electric, Sanitation, Police and Fire Department were out in force to clear roads, redirect traffic and maintain electricity as nearly 4 inches of rain fell and winds gusted up to near 70 m.p.h.
