Hold lawmakers accountable for FEMA flood maps

Posted

To the Editor:

After meetings with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on several occasions, I am totally disgusted as you may be. We have received nothing but idle campaign promises instead of meaningful legislation from our Senate and Congress. Our lawmakers have done nothing to help us.

Our representatives are the same body of people responsible for passing the flood re-zoning bill that enabled FEMA to devalue our property and extort us yearly with outlandish elevation taxes. FEMA justifies its action with counterfeit science. Let us stand together and unite. We can do better. Nassau County homeowners pay the highest property taxes in America.

On Aug. 31 and Oct. 7, FEMA wasted our time with phony science. Let us spend our time fighting them on the real issues. After a series of meetings with Mill Brook members and legal council, we will be better prepared to talk about our options of a class action suit and other considerations. This information will be on its way. Please check out our website at www.gibsoncommunity.com for updates.

Nov. 2 would be a good time to stand together and make our voices heard where it counts. Vote against the lawmakers responsible for passing this legislation. They are the problem, not our solution. Vote them out.
