SSHS opens Science Honor Society chapter

On Oct. 1, 25 students were inducted into South Side High School’s newly-established chapter of the New York State Science Honor Society.

Students were selected for their recognized outstanding achievement in their study of and commitment to science, scholarship, service and personal character.

Criteria for membership included academic excellence in their science and math classes, successful completion of three lab sciences, continued enrollment in science coursework and participation in science fairs, competitions and activities.

The students inducted during the evening ceremony at South Side High school will continue their active participation in science-related clubs and competitions. In addition they will serve as tutors, and mentors to younger students.

The induction ceremony was well attended by parents and faculty, who welcomed the inaugural members of South Side's Science Honor Society with congratulatory remarks and an entertaining science demonstration. The students inducted were Nicholas Aldana, Dan Alles, Aaron Atlas, Colleen Burke, Paul Casazza, Justin Charles, Marck Dacek, Alyssa Ehrlich, Jessica Errera, Matthew Hasday, Mike Kardas, Ben Kutner, James Lettieri, Catherine Mackey, Rory MacAneney, Kathryn Madalena, John Meyerson, Ryan Novak, Kyle O’Neil, Trevor Prashad, Dillon Scaduto, Devin Tark, Christopher Wright, Kevin Yim and Lori Ying.
