Joan Marie (Moffitt) Pratt, 83, a resident of Autumn House in Viera, Fla. and formerly of Islamorada, Fla. and Rockville Centre, died on March 1, after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Mrs. Pratt was born in Rockville Centre, and split her childhood between the village and West Palm Beach, Fla. She graduated from St. Ann’s High School in West Palm Beach and received her bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame College in Baltimore, Md. in 1948. Joan married E. Robert Pratt from Rockville Centre on September 18, 1949, at St. Agnes Cathedral Church. The Pratts and their six children lived in Rockville Centre until 1970 when they moved to Islamorada where she lived until 2003 when she became a resident of Autumn House

in Viera.

While a resident of Islamorada, Joan developed a landscaping business to support her family which ultimately resulted in her retiring as a property manager of Tarpon Flats where President George W. Bush vacationed. Joan loved spending her evenings watching the sunset from her house on Lower Matecumbe Key while snacking on stone crabs from her own traps. She was an avid fisherman, enjoying both the calm waters of the Florida Bay back country and the challenges of fishing for Yellow Tail near Alligator Light. Joan enjoyed golf when the opportunity arose and scored a hole-in-one at the Annual ARC Tournament held at Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. She had an insatiable appetite for the outdoors, boating, fishing, traveling and sharing it with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her children Robert and Sue Pratt of Homestead, Fla.; Geoff and Denise Pratt of Islamorada; Randy and Barbie Pratt of Cortlandt Manor, New York; Kim Pratt Gilchrist of Nokomis, Fla. and Ernie and Tina Pratt Euler of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren Tara Pratt, Brynn Whitehurst, Kaylee Pratt, Jonathan Pratt, Adam Pratt, Tim Cuttle, Rachel Peters, Heather Larson, Geofferson Pratt, Joseph Pratt, Kristamarie Pratt, Katrina Pratt, Stephanie Pratt, Jackson Gilchrist, Samantha Gilchrist, Taylor Gilchrist and John Lucas Hurley; as well as great grandchildren Vinnie Cuttle, Tyler O’Donnell, Emma Larson, Ian Larson, Blake Pratt, Luke Pratt and Olivia Pratt. Mrs. Pratt was predeceased by her husband and her son, Thomas Pratt.
