A Long Beach man was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly left his children in his truck while he went grocery shopping.

Police said the man left his 3- and 5-year-old daughters in the car for about 20 minutes while he was inside Stop & Shop on Park Avenue around 4 p.m., according to Long Beach Police Commissioner Mike Tangney.

A passerby called police, who immediately responded to the scene, Tangney said, adding that officers used the store's P.A. system to tell the man to come outside.

Police brought the girls to the precinct and notified their mother, who then picked them up, Lt. Mark Stark said.

The man, who police did not identify, was charged with two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child.
