L.B. Waterfront Warriors presents ‘Chosin’

The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization is continuing its push to support wounded soldiers, by hosting a number of fundraising initiatives, including a screening of the award-winning documentary, “Chosin,” on Friday, July 16 at 7 p.m. in the Long Beach Middle School auditorium.  The film directed and co-produced by Marine Captains and Iraqi veterans’, Brian P. Inglesias and Anton Sattler, documents the epic battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War.

At one hour and 20 minutes, the film combines rare photos and archival videos and interviews with several “Chosin Few” veterans who discuss the battle that occurred in November of 1950.  For almost two weeks, American and Allied troops battled 120,000 Chinese forces that crossed into South Korea. The conflict took place in subzero temperatures over mountainous terrain, with thousands getting frostbite and others freezing to death.  There were approximately 3,000 US casualties and an estimated 20,000 Chinese casualties.

Filmmakers Brian P. Inglesias and Anton Sattler will be on hand to answer questions about the documentary.

The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization was formed in 2009, providing the first visit to Long Beach by wounded soldiers and their families. This year the visit takes place from July 24-29, with a 5K race and welcome parade on Sunday, July 25. In addition to the trip to Long Beach, the LBWW supports soldiers throughout the year, providing services such as medical treatment and evaluation, temporary housing, and shipping holiday gifts to those who are oversees.

Tickets for the film can be purchased at the door for $10.00. Proceeds from the event will be used to provide activities for wounded soldiers and their families during their visit to Long Beach.

On Saturday, July 17, the organization is hosting a fundraiser at The Inn on W. Beech Street from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.. A $35 entrance fee will include an open bar and appetizers, along with raffle prizes and an auction. All proceeds of the event provide a week of activities in Long Beach from July 25 through July 29 for 30 brave service men and women, their families and families of the fallen. The 5K race and welcome parade will be held on July 25 at 9 a.m. on the boardwalk at Riverside Boulevard. Early registration is $20, $25 day of the race. To register, visit www.Active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1873677.

A welcome parade will be held on July 25 following the race, starting at 3:30 p.m. at Ohio Avenue.
