Dozens of local residents attended a candlelight vigil in memory of Trayvon Martin on April 3, at Elmont Road Park in North Valley Stream, held by the Elmont Cardinals sports club.

Martin, a Florida teen, was shot killed on Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., who claimed he shot Martin in self defense. The case, however, has received national scrutiny as a possible homicide over the past several weeks.
