A North Merrick man who was seriously wounded as a Marine in Afghanistan received a mortgage-free home on Nov. 7 through Valley Stream-based charity Building Homes for Heroes.
Kevin Vaughan served as a corporal in the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. More than 500 people, including family members, neighbors, friends and Town of Hempstead officials, attended the ceremony where Vaughan was presented with the key to his new house in North Merrick.
Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Anthony Santino presented Vaughan with a commemorative wreath that featured the United States Marine Corps insignia.
