Long Beach firefighters battle Pine Street blaze

Long Beach firefighters rushed to a house fire on East Pine Street early Friday morning, where they faced heavy smoke conditions.

Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins said the incident, which was reported at 2:41 a.m., occurred in the attic of a two-family home.

Firefighters observed smoke emanating from the top floor when they arrived at the scene, and worked through heavy conditions when they reached the second floor, fire officials said on Facebook.

The fire was discovered in the attic and a working fire was transmitted, officials said. Officials called for additional resources and put local firehouses on standby.

“The fire was rapidly extinguished and there were no reported injuries,” the Fire Department said on Facebook. Operations were under the command of Fire Chief Joseph Miller.

Kemins said that the cause of the blaze appeared to be electrical, adding that the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office was conducting a routine investigation.

“It was a quick fire and contained to the attic area,” Kemins said, adding that there was some smoke and water damage. “The electric and gas were terminated to the house, and the tenants didn’t ask for any relocation assistance.”
