Lynbrook Fire Department's concert and bike run benefits wounded warriors

The Lynbrook Fire Department hosted its eighth annual Wounded Warrior Concert on Earle Avenue on Sept. 22, which raised more than $25,000 to help wounded servicemen and women.

Over the past eight years, Lynbrook firefighters have raised over $175,000 for those injured in combat.

Before the concert, the firefighters hosted their first afternoon motorcycle run for the warriors. Eighty bikers travelled with a police escort from the Lynbrook and Nassau County police departments east to Captree State Park, in Suffolk County, and back to Lynbrook.

During the evening’s concert, bands Euphoria and Thorgood Jenkins Live donated their musical talent to entertain the large audience of residents, friends, and firefighters from the surrounding areas that came out to support the cause and say thanks to four wounded U.S. Army servicemen, who travelled from their rehabilitation units at Fort Belvoir, Va. to attend the event.

Over 140 raffle prizes that were donated were given out at the event, including two sets of round-trip airline tickets donated by JetBlue.

All the money raised that day went to Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior, a 501-3C charity that is not associated with the Wounded Warrior Project. NCFF-OWW was started in 2004 and the Lynbrook Fire Department and about 34 other Nassau County fire departments belong to the organization.

Nassau’s firefighters help wounded warriors on Long Island and at the VA Hospital in Northport, as well as at military hospitals and rehabilitation units at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Md., Fort Belvoir, and at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune, both in North Carolina.
