Lynbrook North Middle School presents ‘Once Upon a Mattress’

Those theatergoers who thought they remembered the story of “The Princess and the Pea” received a delightful surprise as students at Lynbrook North Middle School put a comedic musical spin on the classic tale in their production of Once Upon a Mattress.

Carried on a wave of romantic and melodic songs, this rollicking tale of royal courtship and comeuppance provided for some side-splitting shenanigans. As the story unfolded, the Queen and her wizard accomplice tried to devise a test that would prove that Winnifred the Woebegone was not a real princess, and therefore not worthy to marry her son, Prince Dauntless. But true love and true royalty prevailed, resulting in a fairy tale ending for all but the mean queen.

The show was directed by Amanda Tambe and Anthony Carollo, who also served as the choreographer and musical director, respectively. Katie Kelly served as the artistic director, Liz Cardito was the costume supervisor, and Jessica Paz was in charge of sound. Set design was provided by Pete McNally.
