A Q&A with incumbents Bill Belmont and Bill Kayen

Posted

William Belmont is a Lynbrook lifer. He graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1984 and has been married to his wife, Allyson for ten years. They have a son in second grade at Waverly Park Elementary School and a daughter in the Lynbrook Kindergarten Center. Belmont works as an investigative attorney in Manhattan and has served on the Lynbrook Board of Education for the past three years. He is running unopposed.

Herald: Why are you running again?
William Belmont: I am running again because I believe it is important to play an active role in the community. By serving on the school board, I assist in ensuring that the children of our community grow up to be positive and contributing members of our society.

H: What are you most proud of during your tenure on the board?
WB: I am proud of being on a board with other community members and school officials that are as dedicated as I am to working in the best interest of our students.
H: What’s an issue that you would like to bring to the forefront as a board member?
WB: These are very tough economic times. It is important to balance the needs of our children against the economic hardships faced by many of our residents. However, when making difficult decisions regarding budgetary issues, its important to make sure that budget cuts are not so severe that they cause irreparable damage to the quality of the educational process. We have to ride out the recession knowing that history has taught us that things will get better.

H: What is the greatest asset that you can bring to the board?
WB: It would have to be balance and relationships. Having graduated from Lynbrook High School, I am fortunate to have established many relationships with individuals in the community. These relationships enable me to balance the issues and make decisions that are in the best interest of the community as a whole.
