Posted

A man was killed in a one-car crash in Valley Stream on Tuesday night near Memorial Junior High School. According to Valley Stream Fire Chief Joseph Fernandez, the vehicle struck a pole on Hendrickson Avenue, between the entrance to Memorial's parking lot and Fletcher Avenue. The front of the victim's black Toyota Camry was smashed in.

However, it is believed the driver died as a result of a medical emergency he suffered while driving, causing him lose control and hit a telephone pole. He was heading east on Hendrickson Avenue at the time.

The driver was transported by a Nassau County Police ambulance to Franklin Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to Fernandez.

The accident occurred at about 6:40 p.m. on May 17. The victim's identity has not yet been released, but has been reported to be a 33-year-old male. Authorities say the man had been suffering from chest pains in the days prior to the accident. No other information was immediately available.
