The third grade classes at Rhame Avenue School are really growing — cabbages!
In the spring of 2009, the students were each given small cabbage plants from Bonnie Plants, located in Alabama, with the goal of growing the plant and cultivating it over the summer. The successful cabbage-growers then gave their teacher, Heidi Kreit, a photo of themselves with their cabbage. The photos were then submitted to Bonnie Plants, who will chose one winner from each state and will award them with a $1,000 scholarship. Last year, the New York winner hailed from Centre Avenue School in East Rockaway.
